FAMILY ACTIVITIES

 SENIOR MOMENTS

(Sharpen Your Mind With a Pencil (or Computer)

The Family Activities Program announces fun and clever activities to sharpen your mind and build brain agility. The best news: The games are fun, fruitful, and free!  Elaine Sack, MA, Ed., (magicpc123@yahoo.com) has developed an innovative program to explore the many choices available to exercise the mind and improve memory and alertness.

Held at the Roeder Pavilion 11:00am to 12 noon on November 12th and December 10th, participants play games, learn about other activities, and receive a puzzle to take home (answers are given at the next session)  The take-away puzzle from the October 22 session for the November 12 session is attached.  The games are great for all ages, and, a gift certificate raffle is held at each event.

Along with doing actual brain exercises, the group will focus on using simple worksheets, computer games, internet website brain games, and how to identify the kinds of games which will bring the greatest benefit and the most fun!  Here are just a FEW of the topics which will be covered…

LANDSCAPE ADVISORY GROUP

$2,000 IMPROVEMENT ALLOCATION: The plan submitted by Las Palmas was approved. Additional information on the La Playa plan was presented. A decision was tabled until November to allow time for the LAG members to give the plan further consideration.

MONUMENT MARKER SIGNAGE: The corroded GOLD-colored coating on the letters at the main entrance to Coronado Shores has been powder coated with SILVER and has been installed.

LANDSCAPE ARCHITECT CONSULTANT: The LAG approved the following recommendation concerning a proposal to retain a landscape architect consultant for Coronado Shores: "The Landscape Advisory Group recommends and supports retaining a properly vetted Landscape Architect as a Consultant to the Landscape Advisory Group on major design projects if the Landscape Advisory Group can define the scope of work." This recommendation is the response from the LAG group to an informal suggestion that had been submitted earlier directly to the L&R Committee. The above-stated recommendation from the LAG was subsequently approved by the L&R Committee at its monthly meeting on 15 October. The L&R Committee's strong commitment to control the escalation of costs, as reflected in the 2010 budget, is fully supported by the LAG.  Therefore, it is unlikely that any significant consultant fees of this nature will be incurred in the near future since no major changes in landscaping are envisioned in the near future. However, if major landscaping changes should be planned at some future time, both the LAG and the L&R Committee recognize that it would be important and beneficial to seek professional advice before proceeding. The option to make this possible has now been approved.
