JOIN US FOR “SENIOR MOMENTS

A NEW L&R ACTIVITY AT THE ROEDER

The L&R Committee, with the recommendation of the Recreation Advisory Group, has approved a new activity “SENIOR MOMENTS”, which will be offered on the 2nd (10/8) and 4th (10/22) Thursdays in October, from 11:00am 12:00 Noon at the Roeder Pavilion.

Some of our older adult residents have asked that activities like BINGO, which was wildly popular during the Summer, be continued throughout the year.  We are aware that today’s older adults have become more focused on healthy living, wanting an assortment of entertainment at home in the community, including fun leisure activities.  SENIOR MOMENTS” will offer both a social opportunity and a mental health challenge through a variety of games which can be played by singles, pairs, teams, or groups.  Elaine Sack, our Summer Program Leader, has a Masters Degree in Education and has access to many different materials and sources for an interesting and successful program.

Our first puzzle is attached.  You’ll have to attend the October 8 session to check your answers and to receive the next puzzle.  Please join us! - MARDI RUNNING

ROEDER PAVILION:  Sample carpet “squares” are being considered based on material and color.  The cost to replace the carpeting with squares will be $11,000.

POOLS: A lightweight mesh metal panel has been installed at El Camino Pool gate.  If approved, each pool gate plexi-glass panel will be replaced.  If there are rules enforcement problems at the pools, and a Patrol Officer is not nearby, use the Emergency Phone to contact the front gatehouse for assistance.

TENNIS COURTS:    The utility shed was replaced at the main courts as budgeted for 2009.

LANDSCAPE ADVISORY GROUP

$2,000 IMPROVEMENT ALLOCATION:   Only Las Palmas and La Playa have landscaping improvement plans pending approval to access their $2,000 allocation.  The other associations have had their plans approved.

PERIMETER BOUGAINVILLEA and HIBISCUS: Some of the new plantings have failed.  8 have been replaced.   They are being watered and fertilized, but just need time to grow.

REPAIRS:  Replaced broken water bib at front gatehouse; Adjusted 2 sagging doors leading to Beach Club; Replaced 2 worn out rear rollers on 2 treadmills at Health Club; Assembled rails on Security cart; Cleaned Roeder carpet; Removed broken seashells from Beach Club roof; Dug out foot shower sand trap at El Camino Pool; Diagnosed and repaired Emergency Phone at El Camino Pool; Removed drinking fountain at tennis courts.

SEPTEMBER L&R ACTIONS

v           Administration, Landscaping, Security, Recreation and Beach Club are operating favorable to budget.  Net Income is favorable to budget Y-T-D.

v           The 2010 budgets were approved: Operating totals $1,952,766; and, Capital Replacement totals $103,600.

v           The entire lagoon perimeter was brushed. Copper sulfate / chlorine / stabilizer were added to address the ongoing algae issue, a problem since the renovation.

v           An encrypted clicker will be tested at the 3 entrance gates.  The current clicker is outdated and the signal has been copied by many unauthorized users.  The encrypted clicker can be used for entry to building garages as well as auto entrance gates.  Initial testing found the encrypted clicker has greater range that the current clicker.

v           The Energy sub-Committee is considering solar heating the Beach Club Pool.  A structural engineer must test the clubhouse roof to ensure it can handle the weight.

v           (4) benches will be purchased for the tennis courts, @ $245, as budgeted for 2009.

v           The Australian Corals are being trimmed to promote blooms and to ensure safety.

v           The Shores’ insurance coverage provided by Farmers will not be negatively impacted by the new mortgage lending requirements.

v           A $30,750 bid was obtained to replace the vehicle gate exit spikes with gate arms to protect against trip and fall injuries.  No decision was made at this meeting.

v           The City will be notified the Shores is not interested in pursuing/supporting the City’s proposal to construct a public bathroom facility and shower in the Beach parking lot.

v           A $5,000 bid was obtained to replace and relocate the damaged common area Las Palmas sign.  A new bid will be obtained to repair and relocate the sign, damaged when hit by several vehicles in its current location.

v           September 30 has been set as the deadline to replace old vehicle decals with new vehicles decals.  Beginning October 1, vehicles with old decals may be booted and/or towed without notice at the vehicle owner’s expense.  CONTACT YOUR BLDG. MGR.

v           An Emergency Planning sub-Comm. will be appointed in October.  Do you have a back-ground in providing emergency services?
