SENIOR FITNESS CLASS CANCELLED

The Use Agreement with the Adult School for the Senior Fitness Class on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at the Roeder Pavilion will not be renewed.  The Adult School lost their funding to offer the Senior Fitness Class during the summer months, and now the class will not begin again in September as anticipated.   The L&R Committee does not feel the class is benefiting Coronado Shores’ residents because attendance is more than 66% non-residents.   The City offers a Fitness Class across the street at the Community Center.  If you are interested, contact the Recreation Dept. for details at 619/522-7342.

LANDSCAPE ADVISORY GROUP

The long warm days of Summer is a period of strong growth for our landscape plantings here at Coronado Shores.  That goes for weeds as well as grass, shrubs, trees, and flowers!  The big responsibility for maintaining the grounds in our complex all year long falls on the L&R Manager.  Oversight of this activity is also a function of the L&R Committee, with recommendations from its Landscape Advisory Group.  The actual landscape maintenance work at the Shores is outsourced to J. Vitale Landscape & Maintenance Inc.   An average of five Vitale employees work on site full time five days a week, with extra workers brought in as needed for special projects – for example, for the installation of major new plantings or for tree and shrub pruning.

Residents and visitors can contribute to keeping our landscaping healthy and beautiful as well.  Here are a few ways your thoughtfulness and consideration can make a big difference:

  • Keep to the walkways, roadways, and lawn areas, when you are outdoors.  Treading in planted beds or driving over the curbs can seriously damage plants and grass.  This translates to more work for landscape personnel and higher costs to the owners for replacement of damaged vegetation.
  • Pick up the waste if you walk your dog.  Complementary pet waste bags, as well as trash receptacles, are conveniently located in areas commonly used for walking dogs.  Remember, it’s the law in Coronado and a rule at Coronado Shores to pick up your animal’s “poop”!
  • Be careful with bikes and trikes, and especially the rented four-wheelers.  It’s so easy to lose control and end up plowing right into planted beds.  Remember: No bikes on the sidewalks or lawns; and, No roller blades or skates, skateboards, or scooters are allowed because they are even more damaging to landscape and hardscape.
  • Please don’t climb over the low walls as a shortcut when heading to or from the Village.  That will damage the planted beds on both sides of the wall.
  • Don’t throw towels or other pool paraphernalia in such a manner as to harm plantings in the pool areas.  Use the chairs, chaises, or hardscape areas instead to store your personal belongings.
  • Smoking is against the rules and is frowned upon.  Don’t discard cigarettes in planted beds.
  • Discard all trash or garbage in the provided receptacles, not into planted beds.

These are a few simple common sense guidelines that should be shared with your children.  Your neighbors will appreciate both your effort and your family’s efforts to keep our landscaping looking great throughout the busy summer months at Coronado Shores.

JULY L&R ACTIONS

v           Through June, Expenses are favorable in all departments, with the exception of Beach Club due to seasonal fluctuations.  Net Income is favorable to budget through June by $86,876.86.  $61,090.34 of $169,600 budgeted has been spent on Capital Replacement items.

v           A record number of photo id cards were issued in June and the first half of July.

v           The Maintenance Department worked on 21 projects in June and July.  Heavy graffiti was removed from outside the Health Club.  Residents are asked to be on the lookout in an effort to identify the taggers.

v           In June, there were 172 Parking Violations, 626 Property/Boardwalk Rule Violations, and 701 Pool Rule Violations.  Unfortunately, reports indicate these numbers increased in July.

v           The Energy sub-Committee will ask the L&R Committee to begin preparing to consider the use of “partial” solar water heating for the pools.

v           The Recreation Advisory Group recommended the L&R Committee budget for Family Activities in 2010, not to exceed $5,000.

v           A policy will be developed for the removal and replacement of trees that have died, to be presented to the L&R Committee in August..

v           A bid will be obtained to heighten the northeast corner wall to prevent trespassers.   A $720 bid was approved to build a permanent concrete pedestrian path consisting of two landings and two set of steps through the landscaped area from the public parking lot to the front of La Perla.

v           Employee benefits will renew August 1 with SHARP, SIMNSA, DeltaCare and Assurant.  There were no other bids because the carriers approached indicated they could not do better.

v           The induction lighting replacement project will begin after Summer.

v          Eight of the ten associations are now using the EasyLobby internet based gate access system.

v           A motion to change the rules and to reinstate the Temporary Guest Card system failed 7/3.   This issue will be reviewed and discussed at the September meeting, along with other new rules.

v           The L&R Committee suggested La Perla remove the Reserved Parking signs from the common area parking spaces near the entrance to their building.
