LANDSCAPE
ADVISORY GROUP
L&R has
approved three recommendations from the Landscape Advisory sub-Committee. First, it adopted a document prepared by the
sub-committee that includes a list of recommended shade trees to be used at Coronado Shores,
if and when the need arises. The trees on this
list were selected based on careful consideration of beauty, height maintenance, and
adaptability to the growing conditions in our community.
The second recommendation adopted by L&R concerns the recognition that certain
large Australian Coral trees on site could pose potential risks to personnel and property
due to large falling branches. This has
happened before on several occasions. L&R
supports the position of monitoring these trees very closely and being prepared to act
promptly to avoid any problems they might pose as judged by tree experts. The final proposal adopted by L&R is to equally
divide funding available in the 2009 budget for landscaping remediation work amongst the
ten residential towers in the community. These
funds will be used for landscaping work immediately adjacent to each tower, but not for
tower entry ways or within the immediate footprint.
TENNIS INTEREST GROUP
Valentines Day will provide an
opportunity for 20 players to participate in the ultimate Love Match. Shores residents and their guests are invited
to sign up for a Round Robin Tournament scheduled for Saturday February 14. Play will begin at 1:00pm and will continue until 3:15pm. Afterward, a social hour will be held for players
and their guests at the Beach Club from 3:30pm to 4:30pm.
Prizes will be awarded. Pizza
and fresh fruit will be served. A sign-up
sheet is located at the main courts, or, call Bob Eldridge at 435-5174. The cost is $5 to play and attend the social. Guests may attend the social for $4.
On a sad note, we bid a fond farewell to
Shores resident and tennis pro Gretchen Theodorou.
She has announced plans to move to Florida.
This will allow her to be closer to family after the birth of her first
child with husband Joe, while he is on military deployment.
Many thanks to Gretchen for her active participation with the Tennis
Interest Group, organizing a series of clinics for men and women last summer, and, for
handling the certification process to use the ball machine.
We wish her the best and look forward to seeing her again some day.
Lastly, bids are being obtained to resurface
Courts 7 & 8. Plans are to complete this
project within the next 60 days, weather permitting. Also,
watch for other improvements that are planned for all courts in 2009.
